About Airport
Biratnagar Airport (ICAO -VNVT, IATA - BIR) commenced operations on 6th July 1958. Biratnagar Airport Civil Aviation Office (BACAO) is an entity directly under Aviation Services Directorate, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Its main goal is to ensure safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic operating within Kathmandu FIR under its jurisdiction as well as to ensure safety, regularity and efficiency of Air Navigation Service (ANS).
Biratnagar Airport is located at north of Biratnagar Bazaar, Morang District of Province No. 1 and serves as a hub airport. This airport is the first certified aerodrome among domestic / Hub airports of Nepal and second after Tribhuvan International Airport. The airport is air linked with nine STOL airports- Taplejung, Bhojpur, Tumlingtar, Phaplu, Lamidanda, Thamkharka, Manmaya Rai Khanidanda, Ilam and Rumjatar, however, currently there is no regular scheduled flight to these airports. This airport is considered as the second busiest domestic airport in terms of passenger's movement after Pokhara airport.
